From the bottom of my heart, I would like to thank you for your support and dedication that made this campaign possible. I will be forever grateful for your support and for believing in our vision for moving America forward.

This was an intense and competitive campaign, and I would like to congratulate Jamie Raskin on his victory and all our opponents putting themselves out there in this campaign. While we fell short, I'm proud of our campaign and our work to continue building the movement for progressive change in Maryland -- and beyond.

Our fight doesn’t stop here.

We have serious issues facing this nation and I’m incredibly concerned about what may happen if right-wing extremists are allowed to grow their power in Washington.

We simply can't let them roll back all the progress we’ve made under President Obama. Now is the time to unify and ensure Democratic victories up and down the ballot to secure a positive future for all of our families.

Under the administration's guidance, immigration courts are going to focus on deporting people who have been convicted of crimes or who pose a security risk. This means that the courts will focus less on "low-priority" cases -- like young people who were brought here as small children and know no other home, or veterans and military spouses. So the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Justice will be reviewing the current deportation caseload, clearing out low-priority cases, and making sure they don't get into the system in the first place -- keeping the focus on cases that will make our country safer. Dear friend, Yesterday, I visited Jackson Park, the future home of the Obama Presidential Center, and surprised some of the Center’s future neighbors.  Take a look. We can’t wait to bring this Center to the South Side. For Michelle and me, this project is about more than building a gathering space and museum—it’s an opportunity to bring jobs, investment, and economic opportunity to a neighborhood that’s given us so much.  But we also know that to be successful, this project needs to not just be for the community, it must be built in partnership with the community.    That’s why, this week, I spent time with local business owners at South Shore Brew coffee shop and got to hear from them directly about their hopes for the Center.  I also stopped by the Wolfpack youth football team’s practice and talked to some of the kids who use Jackson Park every day.     Friend, did you see the news? One of my first actions as a Congresswoman was to display a transgender pride flag outside my office. I did so to show the trans community -- which includes friends and family of mine -- that they are seen, heard, and not erased. Today, we must recommit our efforts toward protecting the rights of transgender Americans. Dangerous misinformation has been amplified by right-wing politicians and media figures, resulting in a disturbing series of state legislative actions across the country that target the healthcare and well-being of trans youth. Last month, I was named a co-chair of the Transgender Equality Task Force, an arm of the Congressional LGTBQ+ Equality Caucus that is advocating for legislative and administrative action to ensure that the trans community is treated with dignity and respect.
