Sheryl Crow : I can't stand by and let someone like that represent my childhood

Hey Gilyard,

Some people say music and politics don't mix. I disagree.
Join Sheryl Crow and help Claire finish strong. DONATE TODAY.
A good song and a good candidate are a lot alike. Both draw from personal experiences and relate to the listener about issues that matter deeply to them.

So whether I'm sitting down to write a song or standing up to speak out about the importance of the upcoming election, I'm drawing upon the same experiences — I'm a woman, a cancer survivor, a mother, a daughter of an aging parent, and someone who values the land.

In the case of the Senate election in my home state of Missouri, there are a number of issues that I care deeply about: a woman's right to choose, access to affordable health care, higher education opportunities for our children, protection of Medicare and Social Security, and simply acknowledging the science of global climate change.

And I don't have to remind you, if Todd Akin is elected we would lose everything I just mentioned. That's right — gone.

That's why I urge you to join me and support Claire McCaskill with a $5 donation today. This election is simply too important to stay on the sidelines.

Don't get me wrong, Claire and I haven't seen eye to eye on everything in the last six years. But, that's one of the things I appreciate most about her. She consistently works towards compromise, even when her friends are encouraging her to take a hard line.

She always does what's best for Missouri.

But, you simply won't get that with Todd Akin. His extreme views come first. And second. What's best for Missouri families doesn't seem to enter the equation.

I can't stand by and let someone like that represent my childhood home. Please join me and support Claire by making a $5 donation today:

I get all of Claire's emails — just like you do — and I'm honored that I get to send one and be a part of this.

Thanks for being a part of this, too,
Sheryl Crow
