we can’t balance the budget on the backs of hungry kids and veterans.

Image
Robert, This holiday season, we can’t balance the budget on the backs of hungry kids and veterans. But that’s exactly what my opponent, Congressman Tom Cotton, and his reckless colleagues are out to do. The only farm bill they’ll pass cuts $40 billion from food assistance, forcing groups like children, active-duty service members and even veterans who’ve bravely served this nation to go hungry. As one Arkansas official at a food pantry put it, this “just can’t happen.” The cuts are cruel and senseless. We’ve got to speak out now and stop Rep. Cotton from pushing through these rash, irresponsible cuts that put special interests ahead of children and veterans. A vote on the farm bill is coming, so we don’t have much time. Take a moment and speak out for our neighbors in the spirit of the holidays. Click here to demand Congress protect nutrition funding so our children and veterans don’t go hungry. Rep. Cotton and the House ext...

Rob: we’re tired of waiting

Image
Robert L., That’s how long we’ve been waiting for a real transportation bill. Congress has passed 33 short-term extensions of federal highway and transit funding over the past six years. That’s inexcusable. With federal transportation funding set to run out in a matter of days, the House and Senate are nowhere close to agreement on how to end the gridlock, putting us right back in the same position we were in barely two months ago. Tweet at Senate Majority Leader McConnell and House Speaker Boehner and tell them we’re tired of waiting. We need long-term transportation investments that will create jobs and economic growth now. As long as we’re on the brink of bankrupting the Highway Trust Fund every six months or so, we’re missing out on long-term investments that would create good, family-sustaining jobs, reduce traffic jams that worsen air pollution, and ensure a strong economy for our communities and families. Tweet a message to Senate Majority Leader   McConnell an...

Madeleine K. Albright: I want you to experience the same southern hospitality that Charlotte has to offer

Dear robert l., Last week, I had the pleasure of visiting Charlotte, North Carolina in my role as Chair of the National Democratic  Institute (NDI). Since 1984, NDI has organized an International Leaders Forum at every Democratic Convention, bringing hundreds of visitors from across the globe to the U.S. to observe our political process. After exploring the city and meeting local residents, it is easy to see why President Obama picked North Carolina to host the 2012 Democratic National Convention. I want you to experience the same southern hospitality that Charlotte has to offer. Whether you come as a delegate or as an observer, you should experience this city during the convention. If you give $5 or whatever you can right now, you will be automatically entered to win free airfare and accommodations for the week of the convention. You will be here on Labor Day for a Celebration of the Carolinas at the Charlotte Motor Speedway and in attendance at Bank of America stadium t...

Colleen: a grand jury has indicted two of the videos’ creators.

Image
Friend, Republicans can’t resist putting women’s private medical decisions front-and-center in our national discourse. So when they saw a deceptively edited Planned Parenthood video last September, we all could have predicted what would happen. Republicans used those videos to justify attempts to withhold Planned Parenthood’s funding and tie up budget talks.  They almost brought our government to a screeching halt. Now, after clearing Planned Parenthood of any wrongdoing,  a grand jury has indicted two of the videos’ creators. They’re facing misdemeanor and felony charges. I’m fighting to get to Congress to protect women’s access to healthcare against extremists who will stop at nothing to take it away. Can you help me get there by giving $5 or $10? The video creators were part of a right-wing, anti-choice group that spent years concocting an elaborate scheme -- complete with a fake company, fake IDs, and fake stories to bait Planned Parenthood employees. Needless to say, ...

Bob: 22 million

Image
Robert, The Big-Oil Koch brothers’ Americans for Prosperity Super PAC has already spent $22 million this cycle. They’re desperate to take the Senate from Democrats, and three men named Mark are standing in their path. If we’re going to keep the Senate, these are the three men we have to stand beside for reelection. And fast – before the critical March 31 FEC deadline. Senator Mark Warner’s opponent? A political operative for George W. Bush and co-founder of American Crossroads with Karl Rove.  We need to keep Rove and his allies far away from the Senate by supporting Mark now. Senator Mark Udall’s opponent voted to speed up deportations for young students and supported – twice – legislation restricting women’s rights and defining fertilized eggs as people.  With the Republicans in control of the Senate, say goodbye to immigration reform. Help reelect Sen. Udall! Senator Mark Begich is fighting back against the Kochs’ Americans for Prosperity. But right now, they’re...

Ruben: I'm standing

Image
Robert - I deployed to Iraq as a United States Marine in 2005. I cleared houses, fought insurgents, and lost friends. Not too long after I returned, I signed up to serve as VoteVets' Arizona State Captain. When i decided to run for State Representative, VoteVets was there for me. And that support continued through my recent election to the U.S. House of Representatives. My story is not entirely unique: VoteVets has helped elect dozens of veteran leaders at all levels of government. And this year, they face their biggest challenge yet: electing Tammy Duckworth and Jason Kander to the U.S. Senate. I'm standing with VoteVets in that effort, and I hope you'll join me. Make a $5 contribution to VoteVets today. What's more, even after the final vote was counted last November, we've continued to work together on issues like debt-free college and keeping our communities safer from gun violence. When it comes to electing and organizing veterans to advance progressi...

Bob: A Real Shot

Image
Robert, There are many election forecasts out there, but they are all saying the same thing:  the battle for the Senate is going to be incredibly close. That means protecting our Democratic majority will come down to taking full advantage of every single opportunity that presents itself. Thankfully, in Kentucky and Georgia, we have two amazing pickup opportunities in the candidacies of Alison Lundergan Grimes and Michelle Nunn. We would end the GOP’s dream of taking control of the Senate if we win these two seats. I told Alison and Michelle that together we could raise $10,000 for them before the huge, public financial filing deadline at midnight on June 30. The pundits will be watching their numbers closely to see how they stack up with their opponents. Will you help make sure we come through for them and protect our majority? Contribute $5 or more directly to Alison Lundergan Grimes and Michelle Nunn and help protect our Democratic Senate majority. Both of the...

Jill: The “Sopranos” state’s 2-party mafia

Image
Dear Friend, I’m just back from the Green Party Annual National Meeting in Newark, NJ, where I endorsed powerhouse Seth Kaper-Dale in his run for Governor.  As one of only two governor races this year, Seth's run in  2017’s biggest election  is a breakthrough moment for Greens everywhere.  The “Sopranos” state’s 2-party mafia is strong-arming Seth into raising $430,000 by August 31st in order to get in to the debates and to receive matching funds. That’s more than four times the $100,000 I had to raise to qualify for federal matching funds in my run for president! It's no wonder they're trying to keep Seth's formidable voice out of the debates. If this giant of social justice is heard, politics will never be the same - and not just in New Jersey. Here's the good news.  We have the power to break their debate blockade by supporting this transformative candidate now . If we can get Seth in to the debates, we Greens can win this high visibility rac...

Yang’s candidacy has a lot in common with . . . Donald Trump

Image
Friend -- Our efforts are working, but we need your help to keep growing.  We need you to donate $20 to post a big number for May so Andrew can meet his goal by the end of June. More and more members of the media are catching on to the movement we are building. Our New York rally drew reporters from outlets including Fox, CNN, and ABC. P olitico , one of the biggest publications in politics, just published a major profile on Andrew, asking, “Is Andrew Yang for real?” Some highlights from the article:   Yang’s candidacy has a lot in common with . . . Donald Trump on the right and Bernie Sanders on the left. He is offering what may be the single most specific diagnosis of the problem at the heart of the American economy. He can talk in vivid detail about specific, scary, looming problems. He comes across as a problem solver. The reporter followed the campaign in South Carolina, where Andrew was polling at 2% ahead of his first trip to the state. That...

I’m taking on centuries of white supremacy and patriarchy

Image
Robert, There would be no Marilyn Mosby without Kamala Harris. When I won state’s attorney, Kamala was my inspiration – and now she’s the Vice President of the United States of America. We are at a critical moment; the precipice of equality and unity, yet hostage to our nation’s history. There is opportunity in our future that we must demand. Progress requires progressive leadership. Progress requires effort. I’m putting in the work, and right now I’m asking for your help.   "Kamala Harris inspires Black women from Baltimore state’s attorney to speaker of Maryland House of Delegates" - Baltimore Sun Far too few Black Women achieve positions of power in this country. While Kamala’s ascension is proof of progress, it is also a reminder of how much further we have to go. I am taking on a field dominated by white men. My policies and actions are dictated by a vision of equality and protection for ALL members of our community. Which is why I’m perceived as a ...
