Take the lead on the DISCLOSE Act
Democratic senators just announced a vote on the DISCLOSE Act for this Monday, major legislation that would take unlimited political spending out of the shadows -- and kill off a lot of it in the process.
Progressives from all over the country are coalescing around this major vote on Monday. Members of Progressives United are joining with supporters of Senators Jeff Merkley (D-OR), Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), Patty Murray (D-WA), Patrick Leahy (D-VT), Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Barbara Boxer (D-CA), Claire McCaskill (D-MO), Dick Durbin (D-IL), Michael Bennet (D-CO), Al Franken (D-MN), Jon Tester (D-MT), Sherrod Brown (D-OH), Bill Nelson (D-FL) and others to build support for it before the vote.
This is going to be a big push.
So-called "social welfare" groups like Karl Rove's Crossroads GPS take advantage of loopholes to funnel huge sums of money into vicious attack ads without ever revealing their donors or disclosing the corporations and billionaires behind them.
The giant knowledge gap separating those bankrolling democracy-damaging ads and average citizens leaves most of us in the dark -- and at the mercy of manipulative corporate interests.
The DISCLOSE Act would expose the corporate special interests trying to buy our elections by requiring these shadowy groups to actually reveal their donors and take accountability for the ads they run.
And a lot of them would give up on their spending rather than give up on their anonymity.
This vote is happening because of the important work progressives like you have done building awareness of the problem and building momentum for change. So thank you for staying involved in this fight! You and your fellow Progressives United members are some of the most engaged people in the whole country on this, and this vote is a result and demonstration of your leadership.

Friend -- I'm the national training director at Obama for America. My job is to develop the programs and resources our staff and volunteers use to teach others how to grow this campaign in their communities. I'm writing because you or someone you know might want to be among a group of people who will play the leading role in our grassroots strategy this fall. They're called our fall fellows. By now you've probably heard of our summer organizers program, through which more than 1,500 full-time volunteer organizers have stepped up as the next generation of leaders in this movement. These folks have been the focus and the heart of our movement all summer, and though each and every one of them will remain a part of this organization, their time as Summer Organizers ends next month. The job of fall fellows is to pick their work up and carry it forward into the months to come. Our fall fellows are going to engage new volunteers on front porches and over the phones.
