If Republicans want to prove they care about women, they're off to a pretty bad start in 2013.

House Republicans let the Violence Against Women Act expire last December -- for the first time in nearly 25 years.
 
The GOP's callous abandonment of the more than 1.3 million women abused by a partner each year is absolutely outrageous. But our pro-choice Democratic women -- like Jeanne Shaheen, Kay Hagan, and Barbara Mikulski in the Senate, and Louise Slaughter, Nancy Pelosi, and Gwen Moore in the House -- are on the case, speaking out bravely and introducing new legislation to get the landmark law back on the books.
 
Join us in sending our women leaders a message that the EMILY's List community is behind them all the way. Sign our petition and tell the amazing women fighting to pass VAWA that you're standing with them.

The Republicans have made their 2013 priorities pretty clear: block sensible gun safety laws. Make draconian cuts to education and Medicare. Repeal Obamacare and further restrict reproductive choice.

But protecting nearly 3 million depending on VAWA programs for their very lives? Not a single GOP cosponsor in the House thus far -- and just five in the Senate.

Friend -- I wanted to make sure you saw the news: Today President Obama announced a common-sense policy change that will make our immigration system fairer and smarter. I'm proud to support it, and I hope you are, too. Under the administration's guidance, immigration courts are going to focus on deporting people who have been convicted of crimes or who pose a security risk. This means that the courts will focus less on "low-priority" cases -- like young people who were brought here as small children and know no other home, or veterans and military spouses. So the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Justice will be reviewing the current deportation caseload, clearing out low-priority cases, and making sure they don't get into the system in the first place -- keeping the focus on cases that will make our country safer. It's a smart, strategic change. And it will make a difference. But more comprehensive change requires Congress to act.

Our volunteers pounded the pavement to talk to voters, our staff put in long hours and late nights, and we fought for every last vote. Dear Robert, When many people think of the  filibuster , they think of the 1939 film  Mr. Smith Goes to Washington . In this classic, Senator Smith talks ceaselessly on the Senate floor to stand up for the little guy against the special interests. It's an unusual and dramatic scene. Today, that scene has been turned upside down.  Senate Republicans routinely use the filibuster to block anything and everything they dislike -- no matter how uncontroversial or critical it is -- to protect special interests at the expense of the little guy. Thankfully, the Senate has an opportunity to fix the filibuster next week, and I -- along with Senators Jeff Merkley and Tom Udall -- plan to do it. Paul: Elkhorn man recalls his role in civil rights marches

CONSTITUENT HOTLINE 1-888-909-RYAN (7926)   Congress had the honor of hosting the foot soldiers of the 1965 Voting Rights Marches and presenting them with a  Congressional Gold Medal  . It was not just what they did, but how they did it. As they gathered in the U.S. Capitol, these men and women shared memories of their peaceful march from Selma to Montgomery, their fight for the right to vote and how they challenged America to live up to its principles of freedom, liberty, and equal rights for all. One of those Foot Soldiers honored was a man named Paul Simpson. Paul Ryan from Janesville, WI had the honor of meeting Paul Simpson, now of Elkhorn, WI. They talked about the marches and their lives in Wisconsin.  Reflecting on his place in history, Paul Simpson said, “I feel good about it.” And he always exercises the right he sacrificed so much for, voting in every local, state, and national election. And  Accountable Tech  is taking on the companies at the center of the misinformation crisis that has destabilized our democracy.
