Barack Obama: I hope I made you proud

Robert --

I hope I made you proud out there explaining the vision we share for this country.

Now we need to go win this election -- the most important thing that will happen tonight is what you do (or don't do) to help in the little time we have left:

Thank you,

Violence against women is one of the most demonic forces on earth

Image
Dear Black Independent, During this year’s Women’s History month, I’ve been thinking less about history made by women who came before us and more about the history we are making now. To women fifty and a hundred years from now, we will be the ones looked back on as the women who made history. Women having achieved power unimagined in former times, people will look back at this time and say we did it! But let’s do more than have them say that we did it; let’s make sure they can say that we did it well. This year, during Women’s History month, let’s not simply celebrate the past; let’s dedicate ourselves more deeply to a better future for all. Let’s not just celebrate the power we’ve gained; let’s think ever more deeply how to use our power for the greater good. Especially let’s not forget the women around the world who are not as fortunate as we. Violence against women is one of the most demonic forces on earth, and always has been. Around the world each day, thousands of wom...

Imagine – Labor Day in the United States with no labor law

Image
Imagine – Labor Day in the United States with no labor law. That’s what we’re facing unless we take action, Robert L.. The Senate must confirm Gina McCarthy to run the Environmental Protection Agency, Thomas Perez to run the Department of Labor, and all five of President Obama’s nominees to the National Labor Relations Board. If they do not, then 80 million workers will lose the protection of the law, and all of us run the risk of dirtier air and water — all thanks to Republican obstruction in the Senate. We can’t let that happen. Write to your Senators today to insist that they confirm the President’s nominees to the Environmental Protection Agency, Department of Labor and National Labor Relations Board. Outdated Senate procedures have made it virtually impossible for the Senate to confirm President Obama's agency and judicial nominees. But Democrats hold the majority in t...

Jason: our absurdly weak gun laws

Image
Friend, With the nation’s 2018 midterm elections coming up, meet the candidates that Pride Fund is working around the clock to elect. These leaders stand for the core principles of Pride Fund—advancing commonsense gun reform and championing LGBTQ equality.  Take a moment to get to know them and sign our thank you letter to show that you’ve got their back!            Tim Kaine: United States Senate (VA)   Senator Tim Kaine served as the Governor of Virginia when the Virginia Tech shooting took place, making him uniquely familiar with the human cost of gun violence and the need for commonsense gun reform. In the aftermath of the shooting, Kaine worked tirelessly to close the loopholes that allowed the Virginia Tech shooter to purchase his weapon, and has fought to strengthen background checks to keep guns out of the hands of convicted felons.         Tammy Baldwin: United States Senate (WI)   ...

Tom: cut down on pollution and create jobs

Image
I’ll tell you why I am. My name is Tom Conway, Jr. and I’m working to build connections between the labor and environmental movements because it is the best way to create real, sustainable change in America. It all comes down to priorities, and our country’s first priority should be providing the opportunity for everyone to make a good living in a community in which their family can be safe and healthy. I’m one of several Regional Program Managers for the BlueGreen Alliance working in states around the country to find common-sense solutions for America’s environmental problems that will also create economic opportunity for all Americans. Will you pledge to support my work and the work of the BlueGreen Alliance Foundation on Giving Tuesday, December 2? My co-workers and I focus on getting things done that will cut down on pollution and create jobs—like reducing methane leaks in natural gas distribution systems; calling for programs that make our homes and workplaces more ...

Elizabeth: three of the closest tossup Senate races

Image
Robert, I was just in Colorado and Iowa with Mark Udall and Bruce Braley over the weekend, and let me tell you: The people there are fighting their hearts out. We all have to do absolutely the same if we want to keep the majority in the Senate. I know you're probably getting a TON of emails right now from tight campaigns all across the country (I am too.) But I wanted to recommend three of the closest tossup Senate races in the country -- three campaigns where every dollar could make a difference: Iowa Democrat Bruce Braley is down by four points in one poll and up just one in another. Alaska Democrat Mark Begich is down by 2-6 points in the four most recent polls. And Colorado Democrat Mark Udall is in a dead heat in the most recent poll. All three of them are getting slammed by vicious attack ads from powerful Super PACs. Republicans know that if we lose Iowa, Alaska, and Colorado two weeks from now, our chances of keeping the Democratic majority in the S...

Adam: didn't have email in 1991

Image
Friend, In a moment, I'm going to ask if you can donate to support my campaign, but first I wanted to tell you the story of how I lost my first two elections and why I decided to run for Congress in the first place. I first ran for the California State Assembly in 1991, and I lost. Badly. I tried again in 1994, and got a little bit closer, but still, there are no prizes for second place in politics. But I persisted. Why? Because I wanted to make a difference. I wanted to serve my community, my state, and ultimately the nation, and I thought elected office was one way I could do that. Flash forward to 1996, the third time was the charm and I was elected to the State Senate. I was able to pass bills to improve health care and education, help constituents get what they needed, and serve on committees that were actually doing something. It was a great job, and I loved it. That's when my constituents encouraged me to challenge a Republican House incumbent in a ...

Bernie: the American people cannot afford to wait for transformational change.

Image
Robert - I just left the stage at the final debate before 14 caucuses and primaries take place over the  next three weeks.  And the message I sent to those who have yet to vote is that the American people cannot afford to wait for transformational change. We’ve heard a lot of folks in the political establishment, and  tonight  on the stage, say that our ideas are too bold. That the best we can do right now is incremental change. But as my dear friend Senator Nina Turner has said,  "the future of our country is too important to go from yes we can to no we can’t." I think our campaign's message is why we left Iowa beating everyone’s expectations, won by huge margins in New Hampshire, and why we will do so well in the 14 contests over the  next three weeks.  But time is running out, and that’s why I have to ask you directly: Make a $3 contribution to our campaign tonight and we will win the Democratic primary, the White House, and take our co...

Bob: put an end to these unfair subsidies

Image
Robert, This makes my blood boil:  Each year, taxpayers spend BILLIONS of dollars subsidizing big oil and gas companies! These companies don’t need taxpayer dollars, period. In 2013 alone, the Big Five oil companies posted profits of $93 BILLION. But that didn’t stop the industry from lining its pockets with BILLIONS of your tax dollars that same year. No wonder the Big Five oil companies were able to pay their CEOs $125 million last year alone. What’s more, even as these often-negligent companies walk away with your hard-earned money, they pollute our air and water, hurting our families and damaging our environment! Remember the BP/Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico? We need to put an end to these unfair subsidies.   Add your name: Tell Congress to stop unfair tax giveaways for Big Oil! The other sad thing is that these loopholes aren’t new. Some of them have been on the books for 100 years! Big Oil companies have had a century of taxpayer mo...

Michelle: When I reflect on the progress we’ve made

Image
Friend, it is absolutely critical we elect a Democratic Senate --  so today I’m asking you to support Democratic candidates across this country who share our values. When I reflect on the progress we’ve made these past eight years -- bringing healthcare to 20 million people, helping businesses create millions of new jobs, making college affordable for so many young people, and so much more -- I remember who made it all possible. It was grassroots Democrats like you who came together to move our country forward. And over the next five days, I’m counting on you to do it again. Friend, now more than ever before, we need your help to finish what we started in 2008. Will you join me and the DSCC to elect a Democratic Senate? The stakes are far too high, and we simply cannot sit on the sidelines when we’re facing such a clear choice for our children’s future. So please, Friend -- will you pitch in whatever you can to help the DSCC turn the Senate blue? Pitch in $1 IMMEDIATELY >>...

Ed: The American People's Petition for No War with Iran! Sign it and share it

Image
Robert - Yesterday, Congressman Ro Khanna and I led 21 lawmakers in a call on Donald Trump to de-escalate tensions with Iran and prevent war in the Middle East. We sent a letter directly to the president calling out his reckless decision to assassinate General Soleimani and demanding authorization from Congress for any military action against Iran. We need you to add your voice to ours: Add your name to become a citizen co-signer and tell Donald Trump not to go to war with Iran. The American people do not want another endless war in the Middle East. Donald Trump started this situation when he withdrew from the Iran Deal and imposed crushing sanctions on Iran. Now is the time to pursue a diplomatic strategy that will defuse tensions and prevent further movement by Iran toward a nuclear-weapons program. Our letter called on the Trump administration to take clear steps that would not only help de-escalate the situation, but would also get us off our march to war. As...
