Friend -- I wanted to make sure you saw the news: Today President Obama announced a common-sense policy change that will make our immigration system fairer and smarter. I'm proud to support it, and I hope you are, too. Under the administration's guidance, immigration courts are going to focus on deporting people who have been convicted of crimes or who pose a security risk. This means that the courts will focus less on "low-priority" cases -- like young people who were brought here as small children and know no other home, or veterans and military spouses. So the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Justice will be reviewing the current deportation caseload, clearing out low-priority cases, and making sure they don't get into the system in the first place -- keeping the focus on cases that will make our country safer. It's a smart, strategic change. And it will make a difference. But more comprehensive change requires Congress to act. ...
The President is touring through Alaska this week, meeting with residents of the state and seeing the effects of climate change on the ground. He's sharing what he sees along the way. Read his entry from yesterday below, and follow along with the trip here . Hi, everyone — checking in on day two. Right off the bat, I’ll note that I’ve got to come back here once I’m done being President. You just can’t see Alaska in three days. I spent the day hiking through Exit Glacier in the Kenai Fjords National Park — where the mountains collide with the ocean and fields of ice. When the team handed over the camera, I did my best to do this place justice: Visitors from around the world come here to see its Harding Icefield — one of the largest ice fields in the United States — covering hundreds of square miles. As the climate warms, glaciers are shrinking more and more rapidly — and throughout the park, there are signs marking where the glacier line used to be. This is as goo...
Hi there, When I was growing up, the classroom was one of the first places that helped me find my voice. I learned a lot in school—my multiplication tables, how to structure a paragraph—but also how to raise my hand, push myself, and speak my mind. I believe every girl on the planet deserves the same kind of opportunities for an education that I’ve had, and that’s what led us to start the Girls Opportunity Alliance—to support adolescent girls' education around the world. It’s also what brought me to Vietnam this week to meet with some of the inspiring girls and leaders who are part of our incredible community. At Cần Giuộc high school, I had a chance to spend time with young women who are determined to get an education—often against great odds. They shared their hopes for themselves and for their families, and they shared how the support they receive from local organizations has helped them to stay in school and build a brighter future. I hope you’ll take acti...
Friend -- Today I asked for a joint session of Congress where I will lay out a clear plan to get Americans back to work. Next week, I will deliver the details of the plan and call on lawmakers to pass it. Whether they will do the job they were elected to do is ultimately up to them. But both you and I can pressure them to do the right thing. We can send the message that the American people are playing by the rules and meeting their responsibilities -- and it's time for our leaders in Congress to meet theirs. And we must hold them accountable if they don't. So I'm asking you to stand with me in calling on Congress to step up and take action on jobs: http://my.barackobama.com/Time-To-Act No matter how things go in the weeks and months ahead, this will be an important challenge for our organization. It's been a long time since Congress was focused on what the American people need them to be focused on. I know that you're frustrated by that. I am, too....
Black — Lowe’s and Home Depot are taking a deadly chemical off their shelves. They made the decision after people like you took to Change.org demanding they take action to save lives. Now, with your signature, you can convince Ace Hardware to do the same. Take a moment to read the amazing story behind two inspiring victories and then add your name to the latest petition in a movement to keep a lethal chemical out of our homes: “No family should have to lose a loved one because of deadly chemicals. Period.” Those are the words Cindy and Hal Wynne used to start their petition after the death of their son, Drew. What started off as an unimaginable tragedy launched their mission to ban deadly chemicals sitting on store shelves across the country. Drew, like countless people before him, was able to walk into Lowe’s home improvement store and buy a paint stripper containing the dangerous chemical methylene chloride. Lowe’...
Dear Robert, As a Senator, a lot of my job involves talking to people. But the most important part of my job is listening . That's why I've held more than 215 community roundtable discussions - including at least one in each of Ohio's 88 counties. What issues are most important to you? Take our survey and let me know. There are issues swirling around Washington that will make a difference not just for us, but for our children and their children. How are we going to return student loan interest rates back to normal levels? How are we going to end the corrosive influence of Citizens United in our elections? How are we going to create jobs and grow our economy? How do we protect access to healthcare for women and families? I know that some of these issues will affect you more than others. And I want to know which ones are at the top of your list. Take our quick survey, and let me know which issues matter most to y...
Friend -- As someone who got his start as a community organizer, President Obama's entire career has revolved around the idea that ordinary people working together can do extraordinary things. So I hope you can take part in marking his 50th birthday next week in the way he would appreciate most: with a solid showing of grassroots action in every corner of the country. This Wednesday, August 3rd, campaign volunteers will get together for house meetings in all 50 states. We'll plan local events, strategize about how to grow the campaign in our communities, and talk about how to spread the word about the President's accomplishments to our friends and neighbors. Best of all, folks will also have the chance to join an exclusive live video conference with President Obama at their house meeting. Can you attend a house meeting in Fort Smith? Here are the details: What: House meeting for President Obama's 50th birthday Where: Fort Smith, AR 72901 When: Wednesda...
THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER! Governor Newsom has received a lot of feedback on his recent social media posts on Twitter and TikTok. Democrats love it. Fox News cries about it relentlessly. But what they don't get is the irony of it all -- that it is putting a mirror up to the absurdity of Donald Trump. Watch this clip from Colbert last night. Thank you, Team Newsom
Hello Robert, I’m Martin Sheen . You know me best as an actor, but I grew up in Dayton, Ohio, and early on in life decided I wouldn't sit on the sidelines when it came to issues of economic and social justice. When a true leader crosses my path -- one who doesn’t just talk about progressive values but embodies them -- I act. And I hope you will, too, by supporting Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown. Sherrod is dedicated to the middle class, to seniors, and to women and families. He doesn’t work for the special interests -- he works for the middle class people who make Ohio great. Sherrod needs our help -- and this country needs the progressive voice of Sherrod Brown. This month, his campaign needs to raise $500,000. Click here to contribute today. We place a sacred trust in our elected officials. We expect them to stand up with courage and conviction for the things we believe in. That’s exactly what Sherrod has done . He showed up on Day One a fighting progre...
