Dear robert l.,

We walked into this year with high hopes that Congress would finally get something done.

But this is almost like an abusive relationship. The Republicans in Congress will say and do anything to tear us all down.

Please give $5 to stop the Republicans in Congress.

The neoconservatives in the Senate have declared Chuck Hagel, President Obama's nominee for defense secretary, enemy number 1. They have drawn out the process to confirm him and have gone to great lengths to demand the president withdraw his name.

They want us all to forget that a majority of the Senate stated they would vote yes to confirm Mr. Hagel's nomination.

Please give $5 to stop the Republicans in Congress.

And when we thought it couldn’t get worse, the Republicans in Congress are moving the country dangerously close to the “sequester” deadline of March 1st without working out a deal with the White House.

If sequester happens, there will be $85 billion in across-the-board cuts in discretionary programs — a devastating blow to middle-class families and the economy as a whole.

Jobs will be lost. Programs will be sliced to pieces. They are willing to hurt the economy, our national security and the vital programs on which middle-class families depend.

We have to fight back. Please give $5.

These are just the latest two reasons to fight back.

We must tell them that they can’t evade responsibility any longer.

Friend -- I wanted to make sure you saw the news: Today President Obama announced a common-sense policy change that will make our immigration system fairer and smarter. I'm proud to support it, and I hope you are, too. Under the administration's guidance, immigration courts are going to focus on deporting people who have been convicted of crimes or who pose a security risk. This means that the courts will focus less on "low-priority" cases -- like young people who were brought here as small children and know no other home, or veterans and military spouses. So the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Justice will be reviewing the current deportation caseload, clearing out low-priority cases, and making sure they don't get into the system in the first place -- keeping the focus on cases that will make our country safer. It's a smart, strategic change. And it will make a difference. But more comprehensive change requires Congress to act.

What is 4th of July to Fort Smith Arkansas. When we still have Confederate monuments downtown. Where they have annual bike rallies in which they sell Confederate flags. When Confederates put flags on their trucks and intimidate our children up and down our streets. When Confederate flags wave through the neighborhoods of our children that are walking home from school. Where their dogs are barking at our children to harrass and terrorized them until  they cannot move and we as adults have to stand and tell them that everything is okay. What is 4th of July to Fort Smith Arkansas. When we have a black mayor who does nothing for his own race and will celebrate America's Independence and ignore his own Freedom day that Juneteenth represents. The same mayor that used the platform of integration and segregation as a reason to be elected. And that same segregation and integration that is represented in Juneteenth was avoided. This Friday is the final deadline for congressional Republicans to stop disastrous automatic spending cuts (known as the "sequester") that will hurt everyday Americans -- including you. These budget cuts will take a sledgehammer to the budget, and indiscriminately cut critical programs vital to economic growth and middle class families.
