When we still have Confederate monuments downtown. Where they have annual bike rallies in which they sell Confederate flags. When Confederates put flags on their trucks and intimidate our children up and down our streets. When Confederate flags wave through the neighborhoods of our children that are walking home from school. Where their dogs are barking at our children to harrass and terrorized them until  they cannot move and we as adults have to stand and tell them that everything is okay. What is 4th of July to Fort Smith Arkansas. When we have a black mayor who does nothing for his own race and will celebrate America's Independence and ignore his own Freedom day that Juneteenth represents. The same mayor that used the platform of integration and segregation as a reason to be elected. And that same segregation and integration that is represented in Juneteenth was avoided. Will boast of white applause and ignore our black sisters in the streets who have questions of why there is no Juneteenth. What is Fourth of July to a Slave. You be the answer. Because we won't stop fighting until we are heard and we are seen.

Friend -- February was the best month ever for our campaign—we received donations from 34,025 different people for a total of $570,954.82!  The average donation was $16.78.  That’s incredible.  THANK YOU for making it happen.  We raised as much as many other major candidates for the month.   Aside from the raw numbers, which are staggering, here’s another reason I am excited.  I received this message hundreds of times via social media:  “You are the first political candidate I have ever donated to.”   This message is important.  It’s become a constant drumbeat.  And it means that we are poised to do great things. Ben: Candy and I first met at Yale.

robert, Candy and I celebrated our 40th Wedding Anniversary on Monday. It has been an amazing forty years. We celebrated it in Nashua, NH while we were on our New Hampshire campaign swing this week. A massive crowd of 650 gathered with us Monday night to hear our friend Tony Orlando sing some of his classic songs. The only thing larger than the crowd was the cake -- it was huge. Our whole event was covered by New Hampshire's  WMUR , and you can see their great story on it below. Candy and I first met at Yale. We are both from Detroit but Yale brought us together. We could never have predicted the course of our journey through life. I can tell you we never expected to be on the campaign trail in New Hampshire. I've spent my whole life tending to children. robert, I just got back from an event in Houston where I had the pleasure of presenting three incredible women to our EMILY's List community,  Leticia Van de Putte, Nina Turner, and Lucy Flores -- all of whom are going to run for statewide office in 2014.  Get to know their names, because they are the next generation of leaders from EMILY's List and the Democratic Party.  It has given me such joy to see them grow, just as our EMILY's List former Political Opportunity Program (POP) candidates Wendy Davis and Natalie Tennant have risen up through our POP pipeline.
