Hi there,

During these difficult times, we have been so moved by the extraordinary ways that girls and grassroots leaders have taken action to support their communities.

The challenges are daunting: more than 1.5 billion students around the world have faced school closures due to COVID-19. And we know from past crises like Ebola that the challenges girls face intensify in times of crisis, from violence at home to economic hardship to lack of access to education. 

Many of these girls receive critical support from grassroots organizations around the world. We recently gathered a group of leaders from the Girls Opportunity Alliance network for a virtual conversation with Michelle Obama about their inspiring efforts to continue to support girls during COVID-19, which include launching virtual classes, delivering books and radios to help girls learn remotely, and providing food and essential supplies to girls and their families. Mrs. Obama stressed the importance of their tireless work and encouraged them to keep going.

This week at the 2020 Girl Up Leadership Summit, Mrs. Obama also celebrated the ways that girls around the world are stepping up to make an impact, from making face masks for their communities in Mexico to establishing online learning platforms in Malawi.

We are proud to continue to support our grassroots leaders by connecting them with each other and by releasing additional funds from the Girls Opportunity Alliance Fund to help sustain their work during this challenging time. 

Because the truth is, this work matters more than ever: even when students are eventually allowed back into their classrooms, experts predict that millions of girls of secondary school age could remain permanently out of school. we need to amp up the pressure on Senate Democrats

Black Independent Party, When asked recently about passing H.R. 1/S. 1, the historic voting rights legislation in Congress (also known as the For The People Act), Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said this: “I would say the deadline for S. 1 is …   probably by August   or so. We’re consulting with experts. When is the latest that S. 1 can undo some of the despicable and frankly racist changes that some of these Republican legislatures have made?” That’s not only a deadline for passing critical voting protections for the entire country; it’s a deadline for getting rid of the filibuster   — because we can’t pass S. 1 through the Senate without doing away with the archaic, racist filibuster. Justice Democrats has been working hard with progressive lawmakers and groups like Sunrise Movement to end the filibuster. Robert, A group of irresponsible Tea Partiers in the House has decided their ideological agenda is more important than having a functional government. This is not the position of a majority of Democrats and Republicans, but a stubborn minority has brought us to the brink of disaster. New Hampshire families are already hurting as a result of this shutdown. Small businesses are going without crucial government loans and losing business from tourists they depend on. If this continues, it will hurt everything from education to housing. We can’t let that happen. My black history was not white enough for the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith.

 It's me the President of the Black Independent Party. Robert  Gilyard.  First black man to get a law degree from the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith in 2007. The first class that graduated from the college.. I am black history in Fort Smith Arkansas. But the whites at the University of Arkansas is bringing their own form of black people to represent our city and they're supposed to be representations of black folks from our city. How can I respect my Alumni when I see the same issues that were there when I was a student. These black folks don't do nothing but go to a college. Then go home. They ignore us. But they are the white people's favorite. Now we have to listen another year and watch them applaud them people that don't give a fuk about us. Because that's how black folks are in this area.
