Guy Cecil: Republicans are dead wrong on this

BREAKING NEWS: Senate Republicans are pushing the Blunt Amendment, a radical piece of legislation that would cannibalize health care reform by letting any employer deny any part of your heath care coverage due to “moral convictions.”

Robert, this goes way beyond taking away birth control coverage. An employer could decide that they couldn’t shell out the money necessary for your expensive cancer treatment because of their "moral convictions," and you’d be out of luck. Their goal isn’t just to end contraception coverage. Their goal is to implode our entire health care system and strike a deadly blow to President Obama’s historic health care reform.

Republicans are going to try to bring this to a vote as early as today. Before the vote, I need you and 49,999 other people who value health care reform to take a strong stand against the Blunt Amendment.

Robert --  Another busy week of campaigning has passed, and we continue to move forward, meeting new people and attacting new volunteers to our efforts. Around the District On Tuesday night I was honored to be the guest of Bloomington Alderman Kevin Lower at a town hall meeting he hosted in Ward 1. Kevin’s dedication to speaking with and directly engaging his constituents is to be commended. On Saturday, we had a wonderful morning in Decatur at a local church and then participated in a family BBQ and forum hosted by the Macoupin County Republican Party. In every county organization across the district, we see energy and enthusiasm as we approach this critical election year.   Fellow Patriot, She did it. We did it. Iowa State Senator Joni Ernst won the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate. In a crowded primary of five candidates, Joni won over 55% of the vote. It's an astounding number considering most polls had her around 35% - the threshold to avoid a convention. Joni was ShePAC's first endorsement of 2014 - when most polls had her in the single digits and no one was talking about her campaign. Iowa was also the site for ShePAC's first "Heels On, Gloves Off" rally of 2014. Russ: We need to do more to help families pay their bills

Robert, Working and middle-class families in Wisconsin are worried about paying their bills. I hear this every day as I listen to voters, especially this week as I talked to new homeowners in Green Bay and Milwaukee about the challenges they face. There are very few options available for working families to help make ends meet, but one is the mortgage interest deduction. That's why it's so troubling to me that Senator Johnson considers this, a bedrock of Wisconsin's middle-class, something that could be on the table for elimination in future tax negotiations. Eliminating the mortgage interest tax deduction would be disastrous for working and middle-class families who own homes in this state, many of whom are already on the brink financially.
