Cory: promise of opportunity.

Robert,
Raise the Minimum Wage! Take Action
In January, 250,000 New Jersey families got a much-needed raise when our state's minimum wage increase kicked in. Why can't we give a raise to workers across the country?
Well, this week the Senate is debating a federal minimum wage bill that would raise the minimum wage nationwide to $10.10 an hour. This change would affect millions of people, improving lives, making families stronger, and boosting our economy by increasing demand for goods and services.
Yet we're hearing the same wrong-headed excuses from critics who say helping out the lowest wage earners will hurt the economy.
To push back against this opposition and build momentum for a nationwide increase, I'm partnering with Senator Mark Udall and Progressives United to show as much support as possible for this crucial legislation.
Former Senator Russ Feingold founded Progressives United to empower ordinary Americans to raise their voices and fight for those whose voices don't otherwise ring loudest in our political debates. That means fighting for those who are struggling to provide for themselves and their families.
And raising the minimum wage is an essential part of the solution in our challenge to restore the American promise of opportunity.
Since a higher minimum wage would give families more purchasing power, studies show that raising the wage would create a multiplier effect and grow our economy by billions of dollars -- not hurt it.
But despite the real benefits, many members of Congress are hearing a different story -- that's why we need to act.
When faced with long odds, Susan B. Anthony gave the following advice to Suffragists: "'Organize, Agitate, Educate,' must be our war cry." As we organize for a living wage, these words inspire me to work.
I hope they inspire you, too.
