Stephanie Schriock: Thank You

robert,

After an incredible night of history-making wins, nail-bitingly close margins, frantic real-time Twitter updates, and celebratory hugs, I'm going to borrow a phrase from our triumphantly re-elected President: You built this.

Friends, you took a hammer to glass ceilings across the country, from the Aloha State to the Badger State, helping elect Tammy BaldwinElizabeth Warren, and Mazie Hirono who will all be the first women to represent their states in the Senate.

Thanks to you, the unsinkable Senator Claire McCaskill will return for a second term, joined of course by Sens. Debbie StabenowKirsten GillibrandMaria Cantwell,Amy Klobuchar, and Dianne Feinstein, who also won re-election.
The U.S. House will reconvene in January a more diverse and inclusive body with 15 (and counting!) new pro-choice Democratic women, due in no small part to your steadfast backing of Elizabeth Esty, combat veterans Tammy Duckworth and Tulsi GabbardMichelle Lujan GrishamGloria Negrete McLeodCheri BustosJoyce BeattyJulia BrownleyLois FrankelSuzan DelBene and Grace Meng, first Asian-American to represent New York in the House.

Thanks to your unfailing support of both our terrific candidates and formidable WOMEN VOTE! efforts, New Hampshire became the first state in history to boast a woman governor -- Maggie Hassan -- backed by an all-female delegation, including Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, newly-elected Annie Kuster, and returning Rep. Carol Shea-Porter.

And of course, innovative and extensive WOMEN VOTE! programs across the country -- funded by generous donors like you -- delivered historic numbers of women to the polls, assuring the re-election of President Obama and Democrats up and down the ticket.

The impact of this historic election will be felt long beyond the days and weeks to come. Women and families across America will see firsthand the difference of your commitment to progressive ideals and women's leadership. And elected officials who push extreme policies know that they will be held accountable by the country's most powerful voting bloc.

Our firewall of Democratic women senators is stronger than ever -- ready to safeguard education, retirement security, and women's health. In the House, Boehner, Cantor, and Ryan will have to contend with a fierce new legion of pro-choice Democratic congresswomen. And yes, thanks to you we wake up in an America that still has one amazing Democratic woman governor.

There's no doubt about it: EMILY's List women are leading the way. From our 2 million members across the country, to the fearless leadership of Sen. Patty Murray and DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, to the incredible new class of women who will join our Congress in January, I am beaming with pride.

Thank you, thank you -- for standing with EMILY's List and our heroic women candidates and for believing in the power of women voters to move our country forward.

Congratulations.

Stephanie
