Last night was an important night for our country, from re-electing President Obama to sending men and women to the Senate who will work across the aisle, find common ground and end the partisan gridlock.

We did this because people like you worked for it and voted for it.

From the bottom of my heart, I can’t thank you enough for the honor and privilege of continuing to fight for New York families in the U.S. Senate.

We have a lot of work to do. Our state is still in great crisis. Communities across New York, in New York City, Long Island and the Lower Hudson Valley, are still recovering. Even with unprecedented federal response, people are still hurting. Lives have been shattered. Homes destroyed.

We will rebuild. When we face down challenges, we always rise to them. It’s because we believe something both simple and profound: “We’re all in this together.”

Today we go back to work. And I know, because of you, we’re up for any task.

Thank you. Not just for being there for me, but for our friends and neighbors here in New York.

Big Pharma is getting rich by spreading a plague among our people. Add your name to support my proposal to hold them accountable Yang Gang -- Every hour, eight Americans die from overdoses.  It’s gotten so bad that drug overdoses have overtaken car accidents as one of the top causes of death in America, and our nation’s life expectancy has decreased for the last three years. It’s a crisis of capitalism run amok. Our government was complicit in enabling this epidemic because they looked the other way while Purdue Pharma and others dispensed hundreds of thousands of OxyContin prescriptions as a non-addictive wonder drug.  And now we’re all grappling with the aftermath. During the debate last week, I gave an answer that has gotten a lot of people talking.  I talked about putting the resources back into the communities that were destroyed so our people could have a fighting chance to get well. Friend -- I'm the national training director at Obama for America. My job is to develop the programs and resources our staff and volunteers use to teach others how to grow this campaign in their communities. I'm writing because you or someone you know might want to be among a group of people who will play the leading role in our grassroots strategy this fall. They're called our fall fellows. By now you've probably heard of our summer organizers program, through which more than 1,500 full-time volunteer organizers have stepped up as the next generation of leaders in this movement. These folks have been the focus and the heart of our movement all summer, and though each and every one of them will remain a part of this organization, their time as Summer Organizers ends next month. The job of fall fellows is to pick their work up and carry it forward into the months to come. Our fall fellows are going to engage new volunteers on front porches and over the phones.
