Dear Robert, What if there was a magic button that could overturn  Citizens United , get the word “SuperPAC” out of our national vocabulary, and drive shady money out of our political system forever? Wouldn’t you push the heck out of that button? Me, too. But there’s no such button. All we can do is fight as hard as we can to limit the influence of big money -- and one important step we can take is passing the DISCLOSE Act, a bill that would force special interest groups to tell us who’s funding their political activities. Dear robert-- Two weeks ago, we asked Chicagoans to share their stories of real life under Rahm's administration. The response was overwhelming. Dozens and dozens of people told us about difficulties they've experienced due to failed policies and wrong priorities. Now, we are asking you to pick the story that should be made into a video. With the authors’ permission, we've selected three stories that reflect concerns common for many people: Pick a story and chip-in $10, $20, or more, to cover the costs of making a video and promoting it widely. If a story collects $5,000, we can proceed with production.  Debra's story: Both of our two daughters are Special Ed kids and take buses to school. Our older daughter has severe cerebral palsy.           : Over a hundred years ago, the racist anti-immigrant cartoonist, Thomas Nast, did his best to whip up anti-immigrant sentiment in the U.S.  The time was the 1880's. His cartoons portrayed the Irish as monkeys, Catholic Bishops as crocodiles climbing onto America's shores to eat up white Anglo-Saxon Protestant families, and hordes of lawless immigrants swarming off of boats to take up degenerate lives of crime in America's cities. Fast forward to the present. The Know-Nothing Party has finally taken the White House with Donald Trump's presidency. What is his top target where cities are concerned? Since I first learned that fracking threatened my home and drinking water in upstate New York,  I’ve been working with Food & Water Watch.  I've joined with them because they understand the power of community organizing to win campaigns. I have never seen anything like the extremism and disdain for working Americans shown by many of President Trump's Cabinet nominees.  They are determined to shutter public schools, cut Medicaid and Social Security, silence climate scientists and rip health care from tens of millions of Americans.
