Howard: true to our belief

Robert --

I want to thank you for the touching birthday wishes I have received from Democracy for America members over the past several days.

Reading your words was a striking reminder of the breadth and depth of everything we have built together over the last decade.

Dean for America was always more than just a presidential campaign. And in the same way, Democracy for America has always been more than just another political organization. We're a community. We not only share the same values -- we have history together. We've fought the same fights, side by side. And when we win, we win together.

In a world like this -- where political organizations are proliferating rapidly in the aftermath of Citizens United, many of which are shady and nefarious -- that is an incredible thing.

A people-powered community driven by the 50 State Strategy was the vision that fueled the founding of Democracy for America and it is the vision that has sustained it for over a decade. With your support, we can sustain DFA in the critical years to come.

So for my birthday, instead of sending me presents, I'm asking you to support DFA with a timely donation. With your support -- at whatever amount feels appropriate -- our collective legacy and community can thrive this year and in the years to come.

This country needs progressive communities like DFA now more than ever. In this post-Citizens United world, it can often feel like there's no way for non-millionaires and billionaires to be heard in the political arena. But when we join our voices, powerful things can happen.

Just in this last election alone, DFA members showed the world so many amazing examples of what progressives can do together.Together, we stayed true to our belief in the 50 State Strategy by supporting 74 candidates from everywhere from Maine to Alaska.

This year is going to be critical in terms of deciding what the Democratic Party's future will look like. The 2016 presidential election is just around the corner.

If progressives want important issues like income inequality to be central to the Democratic agenda, we are going to need to stand up and speak out -- and through DFA our voices will be much more powerful than they would be on their own.

Together, we've kept DFA at the forefront of the most important fights in politics for more than 10 years. For my birthday, can you chip in $3 or more to DFA -- so we can stay at the forefront of these fights for another decade?

Thank you again for all that you've done to support the "Democratic wing of the Democratic party."
