an economic miracle.
In North Dakota, we’re something of an economic miracle.
At a time when most states are still struggling, we have the lowest unemployment rate and the fastest economic growth in the nation.
I’m so proud to represent a state with some economic horsepower – but we have to make sure all our skilled and dedicated workers are getting a fair deal. It’s not enough to earn a wage if it’s not a living wage.
There’s legislation in the Senate right now that would finally raise folks’ pay and lift millions of Americans out of poverty. But to pass it, we have to make sure Congress hears us, loud and clear.
The federal minimum wage has been frozen at $7.25 an hour for over four years. Meanwhile, the prices of everything have gone up.
If a family of four makes just the minimum wage, even at 40 hours a week, they’re living below the poverty line.
Hardworking Americans with full-time jobs shouldn’t have to worry about where their kids’ next meal is coming from.
We can do much better.
That’s why I hope you’ll join me in supporting the Fair Minimum Wage Act of 2013, which would raise it to $10.10 an hour, keeping pace with inflation.
Thanks for standing with me,
Heidi
