Dear Friend,
Recently, when the Senate was voting on the annual budget they also voted on a marathon of amendments. An amendment supporting earned sick days for all workers got 61 yes votes— 45 Democrats, 14 Republicans and two independents.
Sounds good, right? Well maybe.
The vote wasn’t to pass legislation. The Senate passed a symbolic (albeit unprecedented) budget amendment that simply expressed support for earned sick days.
This vote clearly shows momentum for earned sick days from coast to coast. However, we need more than just support - we need action!
36 senators, including yours, voted in favor of the earned sick days budget amendment but have not yet co-sponsored the Healthy Families Act — legislation that would allow workers to earn up to seven earned sick days per year.
