Relief for Texas Farmers and Ranchers

This month, I joined U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins and Governor Greg Abbott to announce that a $750 million new facility will be built in South Texas to stop the spread of the screwworm.

Additionally, through my seat on the House Appropriations Committee, I doubled the initial funding for screwworm eradication efforts in our nation’s agriculture budget.

Sterile flies are the fastest, most effective method to eliminate the screwworm. Building a facility here in the U.S. to protect against a screwworm invasion is a key pillar of my bill, the STOP Screwworms Act, which I introduced earlier this year to strengthen our defenses against this dangerous parasite.

On Thursday, I joined farmers, ranchers, and local government leaders from across Schleicher and Sutton counties in Sonora to share these wins for our agricultural producers in Texas.

Protecting West Texas Oil and Gas

Nearly half of America’s energy comes from the Permian Basin in West Texas.

This week, I held a roundtable with the FBI and West Texas law enforcement to share information and provide updates on the recurring oilfield theft that hits producers of all sizes in the region.

From introducing legislation to up penalties for oilfield theft to backing funding for the FBI’s Permian Basin Oilfield Theft Task Force, I’m committed to protecting Texas’ energy resources.

Delivering for Marfa ISD

As a father of six and the founder of the Bipartisan School Safety and Security Caucus, there's nothing more important to me than ensuring our kids learn, grow, and thrive in a safe learning environment.

This week, I met the new School Resource Officer at Marfa ISD. His position was made possible through the COPS Hiring Program grant, which I provided a letter of support for.

We are grateful to all our faculty and law enforcement who help make the classroom a safe place for our children.
