Kirsten: two fabulous women
I know your inbox probably feels crowded right now, so I want to help cut through the clutter by telling you about a ten-time marathon runner and a PTA president – two fabulous women who truly deserve your attention:
- My friend Kyrsten Sinema won her first Congressional race in 2012 by fewer than 10,000 votes. She’s proven herself an ally on reducing student loan interest rates and supporting women’s right to choose, and she fought by my side on behalf of military sexual assault victims.
Now, Kyrsten is running her first reelection campaign – the toughest race for a member to win – and she needs our help today. - Gwen Graham is running her first campaign to reclaim a red seat and bring real change to the Florida panhandle. Inspired by her father, former Democratic Senator Bob Graham, she has forged her own path as a tireless advocate for public education, serving as PTA president and in-house attorney in her local schools. North Florida desperately needs her after two years of Tea Party Rep. Steve Southerland, who voted to cut Pell Grants for 1.4 million students, pulling college farther out of reach for middle class families.
We must replace Southerland with Gwen’s on-the-ground advocacy and consensus-building, and she needs our support to win.
Both of these races have been flagged by the DCCC as top priorities for grassroots supporters across the country – because they are tough races, but also because they are so key to our progress.
Will you join me now in raising $18,000 by midnight tomorrow to help these amazing women win?
Kyrsten stood up against big money in 2012, and she can do it in 2014, but they’re at it again. The Young Guns Network – a shadowy, deep-pocketed outside group, has already spent $2.7 million on airtime to attack Kyrsten and other Democrats.
Gwen’s race is a dead heat in the most recent polls, even after two TV ad buys by the Koch brothers’ Super PAC and despite Southerland outraising her in the first quarter.
These races are ours to win, but dark dollars from Republican allies will keep pouring in, and Kyrsten and Gwen need strong grassroots mobilization to fight back.
Thank you for your support.
Kirsten
