A group of irresponsible Tea Partiers

A group of irresponsible Tea Partiers in the House has decided their ideological agenda is more important than having a functional government. This is not the position of a majority of Democrats and Republicans, but a stubborn minority has brought us to the brink of disaster. New Hampshire families are already hurting as a result of this shutdown. Small businesses are going without crucial government loans and losing business from tourists they depend on. If this continues, it will hurt everything from education to housing. We can’t let that happen. When I was governor, I learned about the value of focusing on solutions over ideology. We need to do the same now. We need to send the message that American families come first. Join my colleagues and me in calling for an immediate end to this harmful shutdown. By some counts, more than 20 Republicans in the House have expressed a willingness to pass a clean resolution to fund the government. There’s enough support for passage in the Senate, too. However, the Tea Party’s keeping us from getting the chance. As a former small business owner, I know the harmful effects that an unstable government can have on growing a business. It’s tough to plan your finances without knowing what the economy is going to look like tomorrow – which makes it all the more outrageous that this is happening now, while we’re still recovering from the worst recession in decades. We’ve got to break the gridlock and get our government back up and running. With every day that goes by, the shutdown hurts New Hampshire families more and more – so we’ve got to act fast. Will you join several of my colleagues and me in calling for an end to this shutdown? Add your voice to our call for the government to be reopened immediately. Thanks, Jeanne |
