Millions of transgender people still face discrimination

    Friend, did you see the news? One of my first actions as a Congresswoman was to display a transgender pride flag outside my office. I did so to show the trans community -- which includes friends and family of mine -- that they are seen, heard, and not erased. Today, we must recommit our efforts toward protecting the rights of transgender Americans. Dangerous misinformation has been amplified by right-wing politicians and media figures, resulting in a disturbing series of state legislative actions across the country that target the healthcare and well-being of trans youth. Last month, I was named a co-chair of the Transgender Equality Task Force, an arm of the Congressional LGTBQ+ Equality Caucus that is advocating for legislative and administrative action to ensure that the trans community is treated with dignity and respect. My black history was not white enough for the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith.

 It's me the President of the Black Independent Party. Robert  Gilyard.  First black man to get a law degree from the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith in 2007. The first class that graduated from the college.. I am black history in Fort Smith Arkansas. But the whites at the University of Arkansas is bringing their own form of black people to represent our city and they're supposed to be representations of black folks from our city. How can I respect my Alumni when I see the same issues that were there when I was a student. These black folks don't do nothing but go to a college. Then go home. They ignore us. But they are the white people's favorite. Now we have to listen another year and watch them applaud them people that don't give a fuk about us. Because that's how black folks are in this area. Robert, In order to win an election as a challenger, you have to draw a strong contrast with the incumbent. If people don't know why you're different, why should voters choose you over her? For Scott Brown, that point of contrast has always been health care reform. He notched a surprise victory in the Massachusetts special election in 2010 promising to be the 51st vote against the Affordable Care Act . At that time, it struck enough of a chord with voters to put him in office. But by 2012, the tide had turned. He lost to Elizabeth Warren. Now he's running for Senate in New Hampshire, vying to take out my friend and colleague Jeanne Shaheen. But the ACA is doing even better now than it was in 2012. It's holding down cost increases, and it's expanding coverage to millions of people. Mark: 5 Shadowy Groups in Arkansas

Robert, For a while now we’ve warned that the dark money pouring into Arkansas to buy this Senate seat would only get worse – and now it has. Toward the end of May, five shadowy outside groups announced they planned to spend over $3 million on TV in the coming weeks to prop up Tom Cotton. The  Citizens United  ruling opened the floodgates to out-of-state billionaires – you know their names – and they’re wasting no time trying to drown out the voices of Arkansans. They have already spent around $10 million in this race to elect a senator they know will do their bidding instead of listening to Arkansans. We’ve got to send a message that our democracy is not for sale, and that the value of someone’s voice isn’t measured by the number of zeros in their bank account. Conner: Arkansas Heroes Daisy Bates and the Little Rock Nine started the civil rights movement before MLK

Friend -- All month long, we have been celebrating Black History Month -- a time we use to both reflect on the progress our state and nation have made and to recommit ourselves to continuing that fight. This year marks almost 60 years since the integration of Arkansas's public schools. Little Rock Central set the stage for us to grow as a state and country.  Heroes like Daisy Bates and the Little Rock Nine showed us that you don't need to be a senator or politician to make a difference. There are countless Arkansans who have had pivotal roles in black history and, therein, American history.  These are folks who often go unrecognized but deserve our upmost gratitude and highest acknowledgment.  For instance, in November of last year, Arkansas and America lost a true patriot and hero with the passing of Milton Pitts Crenchaw. Robert - I deployed to Iraq as a United States Marine in 2005. I cleared houses, fought insurgents, and lost friends. Kirsten: I know why Comey was fired

Robert, over the last 48 hours, we’ve continued to learn what led President Trump to fire FBI Director James Comey. And every new revelation increases the seriousness of the crisis we face.   Comey had reportedly requested more resources from the Department of Justice to investigate the Trump campaign’s alleged ties to Russia. It isn’t hard to connect the dots to what happened next: President Trump wanted this all to go away, so he fired Comey.   This is an extreme takeover of one of our country’s most powerful institutions. The president is not above the law. That’s not who we are.   But Republican leadership is ignoring our calls for an independent investigation. We must raise our voices until they listen.
