Kirsten: Stand up for Her

Kirsten Gillibrand for Senate
24-hour deadline: Help Wendy turn Texas blue! Contribute.Robert,
Exactly one year ago today, Wendy Davis took an epic, 11-hour stand before the Texas Senate, filibustering Governor Rick Perry’s extreme anti-women bill.
Wendy’s stand launched a movement, pushing us all to consider the big question: What do we stand for?
One year later, Wendy is fighting to become the first Democratic governor of Texas in decades, and the jeers from Republican extremists have morphed into even more outlandish, sexist attacks (remember “Abortion Barbie”?).
Make no mistake: They’re not attacking Wendy’s record; they are attacking her because she is a woman.
A woman who graduated from Harvard and was elected to the Texas state senate.
A woman Republicans call “too stupid to be governor.”
That does more than anger me. It makes me want to stand up. We stood with Wendy one year ago. Will you donate $5 or more today to show Wendy we stand with her again?
Last summer, The Austin Chronicle proclaimed, "If you liked Rick Perry, you'll love Greg Abbott.” Rick Perry gutted child support services even as child poverty soared to 25% in Texas. He vetoed equal pay for women and severely limited women’s access to healthcare choices.
I think we’ve had enough of what Perry has to offer.
Greg Abbott has also made it painfully clear where he stands, and it’s not with women and families. Not only does Abbott oppose a woman's right to choose without exceptions for rape and incest, but he also opposes expanding Medicaid to low-income women and children.
His policies are worse than ineffective – they would be downright harmful to Texas women and families.
It’s a long road, but she can make it if we’re by her side. Are you ready to plant your feet for a long stand?
Wendy stood one year ago for all women, and we must stand up for her today.
