Now that lawmakers in the Senate have come together to pass a bipartisan piece of legislation to fix our broken immigration system, it's up to the House of Representatives to do the same.

And that makes this the perfect time to learn more about the issue.

In the days ahead, those members of Congress have to make a choice about the right way to reform immigration -- or if they want to proceed at all. As the national debate begins in earnest, we want to make sure you have information you need to answer questions in your community.

This means that the courts will focus less on "low-priority" cases -- like young people who were brought here as small children and know no other home, or veterans and military spouses. So the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Justice will be reviewing the current deportation caseload, clearing out low-priority cases, and making sure they don't get into the system in the first place -- keeping the focus on cases that will make our country safer. Dear friend, Yesterday, I visited Jackson Park, the future home of the Obama Presidential Center, and surprised some of the Center’s future neighbors.  Take a look. We can’t wait to bring this Center to the South Side.     Friend, did you see the news? One of my first actions as a Congresswoman was to display a transgender pride flag outside my office. I did so to show the trans community -- which includes friends and family of mine -- that they are seen, heard, and not erased. Today, we must recommit our efforts toward protecting the rights of transgender Americans. Dangerous misinformation has been amplified by right-wing politicians and media figures, resulting in a disturbing series of state legislative actions across the country that target the healthcare and well-being of trans youth. Last month, I was named a co-chair of the Transgender Equality Task Force, an arm of the Congressional LGTBQ+ Equality Caucus that is advocating for legislative and administrative action to ensure that the trans community is treated with dignity and respect.
