Tom Harkin: you and I are still in this together
Dear Robert,
I have an important announcement to make today.
When I announced in January that I would not seek another Senate term, I also made a few promises: that I wasn't done, that I wouldn't stop fighting for progressive values, and that I would do everything in my power to keep Iowa's Senate seat -- and majority control of the U.S. Senate -- in Democratic hands.
That's because you and I are still in this together -- and that's why I want to invite you to join me today as we announce the launch of To Organize a Majority PAC's (TomPAC) online organizing arm.
TomPAC will allow me -- with your help -- to continue fighting for progressive values, to champion America's middle class, and to promote a peaceful, sustainable, equal-opportunity global future.
But to be successful, we have to start off strong and build our resources right now -- before Sunday's quarterly fundraising deadline.
One of the core purposes of TomPAC will be to direct resources to the progressive candidates like my friend, Al Franken, that share our values and stand the best chance of winning.
These candidates will form the next generation of progressive leadership and help ensure that, while I may leave the Senate after this election, there will still be people guided by the values you and I fought for together.
Even now, many of these candidates are gearing up for tough races.
The single most important thing we can do to help them is provide resources early, before the election gets into full swing. We need to be there for them the same way you've been there for me.
I can't put into words what an honor it has been to serve my fellow Iowans for these past 40 years. I am deeply grateful for your support, and I hope I can count on you as we turn this new page.
Sincerely,
Senator Tom Harkin
