Robert, Last night, Alma Adams was sworn in as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, becoming the 100th woman to serve in our current Congress. This important milestone was nearly a hundred years in the making, dating back to 1917. While we mark this occasion, let us also make clear:  We won’t wait another century to get the equal representation women deserve. We can – and should – recognize this moment without getting complacent over our future. We should fight for more swearings-in, more celebrations, and more women in office.   I get it: It can be hard to keep track of everything going on in Washington. And it can be easy to feel discouraged about what’s not happening fast enough, or what’s not happening, period. So I want to give a quick rundown of how I see the lay of the land, and how we’re making some progress even though we’re in the middle of some tough fights. But first, I’m asking: We have a big end-of-quarter fundraising deadline coming up, and we have less than a week to hit our goal. Supporting Surfside

    Robert, By now you will have heard the horrifying news about the building collapse in Surfside. All of my thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of the victims during this unimaginable tragedy, and with our first responders who are heroically risking their lives to save the missing and reconnect loved ones.    In these difficult times it is important that we pull together as a community, to support those who are in need. Dear friend, Yesterday, I visited Jackson Park, the future home of the Obama Presidential Center, and surprised some of the Center’s future neighbors.  Take a look. We can’t wait to bring this Center to the South Side. For Michelle and me, this project is about more than building a gathering space and museum—it’s an opportunity to bring jobs, investment, and economic opportunity to a neighborhood that’s given us so much.  But we also know that to be successful, this project needs to not just be for the community, it must be built in partnership with the community.    That’s why, this week, I spent time with local business owners at South Shore Brew coffee shop and got to hear from them directly about their hopes for the Center.  I also stopped by the Wolfpack youth football team’s practice and talked to some of the kids who use Jackson Park every day. robert, Congress just got back from their annual summer vacation -- but Mitch McConnell's Republican Party sure didn't take a single day off from their attacks on women and families.  They've come after Alison Lundergan Grimes with sexist attacks on her qualifications. They've shuffled their election dates in Georgia to try to come up with a less absurd challenger to Michelle Nunn. It's been a crazy couple months, but we can't dwell on the negative -- because  we've had an amazing response from all of you in the last several weeks! You've put our women candidates like Alison and Michelle in a great place with thousands and thousands of contributions. You've supported EMILY's List in unprecedented numbers.
