Confirmation hearings for President-elect Donald Trump’s cabinet nominees began this week. As those get underway, a number of citizens continue to call for the process of selecting America’s newest government leaders to slow down to allow for proper vetting. Thanks to these demands, several hearings have been delayed.
Whether you support President-elect Trump’s nominees or not, there is a legal process in place to ensure that leaders at the highest echelons of our government do not have conflicts of interest or other issues that make them unfit for their responsibilities as public servants.
Here are some things you can do right now to make your voice heard in this process:
  • Check out ongoing campaigns: Join others taking action by heading to this movement page, which captures a variety of asks of President-elect Trump and his incoming administration.
  • Listen to the testimonies: Learn more about how the confirmation process works and take some time to listen to the nominees’ testimonies. Digest their responses to Senate inquiries and consider how to keep these individuals accountable if they are confirmed.
  • Reach out to your senators: Call their offices to:– Tell them which nominees you want to have approved and why.– Encourage them to ask specific questions at upcoming hearings.
    – Share how important it is to have all cabinet nominees appropriately vetted.
During these important days of political transition, your voice can help ensure that our government continues to serve the best interests of the American public and the global community.

Historic Victory at Standing Rock Calls for Celebration and Vigilance For the last eight months, the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe has led a historic campaign against the Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL), uniting hundreds of tribes, environmentalists, veterans and other activists inspired by their bold stand in defense of native treaty rights and the environment.   On Sunday, millions of people around the world celebrated news that the Army Corps of Engineers had rejected an easement to allow DAPL to go forward. This was an enormous victory for the movement and for ordinary people everywhere in the struggle against Big Oil and naked corporate greed. Donald Trump keeps putting himself first and America last. Even as cases of COVID-19 skyrocket in states across the country, this president continues to host in-person fundraisers to pad his reelection war chest and fund dishonest ads -- including planning to return back to Florida, which is currently battling a sharp increase in cases -- at the end of the month. It’s irresponsible and reckless that Trump is ignoring public health experts and carrying on with his in-person fundraising events, but it's clear there's no level he won't sink to in an attempt to stop Democrats from chipping away at the RNC's cash-on-hand advantage. In 2013 alone, the Big Five oil companies posted profits of $93 BILLION. But that didn’t stop the industry from lining its pockets with BILLIONS of your tax dollars that same year. No wonder the Big Five oil companies were able to pay their CEOs $125 million last year alone. What’s more, even as these often-negligent companies walk away with your hard-earned money, they pollute our air and water, hurting our families and damaging our environment!
