Hello --
On Tuesday, President Obama delivered his State of the Union Address. He was talking to Congress, but there's someone he especially wanted to speak to:
You.
That’s why we created Citizen Response -- a new tool that lets you to tell President Obama and his advisers what you thought of his plan to create jobs and build a strong middle class.
In fact, Americans from all over the country have given us their responses. They sat down with President Obama's speech, read through it line by line, and highlighted the ideas that resonated with them. People like you are telling us why the President's proposals matter to their communities.
It's an incredible thing. And you should be part of it.
The responses we've already seen are powerful stuff.
We heard from a veteran named Jason, who said, "I went to college using the GI Bill and was able to buy a home using the VA Home Loan. Please continue to give veterans the benefits they deserve and give them more help for transitioning out of the military back into civilian life."
We heard from a guy named Matt, who told us that he liked what he heard about the minimum wage. "The only way we can bring this country and this economy back to being 'great' again," he said, "is if we can have a more rational benchmark for pay."
Others have said that they support President Obama's call for high-quality preschool for every child. Others have said that it's time for a vote to help reduce gun violence.
This week, the President is on the road talking with people across the country about the State of the Union, but let me tell you what we're doing with stories like yours.
We're crunching the numbers, compiling your feedback, and putting a presentation together to update senior White House staff.
And soon, we're going to share your stories with President Obama so that he has a chance to hear your voices for himself.
So make sure you watch Tuesday's enhanced State of the Union and give us your Citizen Response. You have no idea how important it is:

Back at work with his newly restored vision, Juan has increased his income by 60 percent and is now able to support his family -- and can even start saving. Agnes Spinala, the mother of a critically handicapped son in Malawi, needed to raise money to pay school fees for her son. Friend -- I wanted to make sure you saw the news: Today President Obama announced a common-sense policy change that will make our immigration system fairer and smarter. I'm proud to support it, and I hope you are, too. Under the administration's guidance, immigration courts are going to focus on deporting people who have been convicted of crimes or who pose a security risk. This means that the courts will focus less on "low-priority" cases -- like young people who were brought here as small children and know no other home, or veterans and military spouses. So the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Justice will be reviewing the current deportation caseload, clearing out low-priority cases, and making sure they don't get into the system in the first place -- keeping the focus on cases that will make our country safer. It's a smart, strategic change. And it will make a difference. But more comprehensive change requires Congress to act.

What is 4th of July to Fort Smith Arkansas. When we still have Confederate monuments downtown. Where they have annual bike rallies in which they sell Confederate flags. When Confederates put flags on their trucks and intimidate our children up and down our streets. When Confederate flags wave through the neighborhoods of our children that are walking home from school. Where their dogs are barking at our children to harrass and terrorized them until  they cannot move and we as adults have to stand and tell them that everything is okay. What is 4th of July to Fort Smith Arkansas. When we have a black mayor who does nothing for his own race and will celebrate America's Independence and ignore his own Freedom day that Juneteenth represents. The same mayor that used the platform of integration and segregation as a reason to be elected. And that same segregation and integration that is represented in Juneteenth was avoided. This Friday is the final deadline for congressional Republicans to stop disastrous automatic spending cuts (known as the "sequester") that will hurt everyday Americans -- including you. These budget cuts will take a sledgehammer to the budget, and indiscriminately cut critical programs vital to economic growth and middle class families. I could not be more proud of everything we have been able to accomplish this year. The new Republican Senate majority will bring positive change to our country.
