Sherrod Brown: Thank You

Dear Robert L.,

After a campaign like that -- after a night like last night -- I have only two words: Thank you.

Okay, I could say a lot more. I could tell you how proud I am that we stuck together and overcame $40 million in special interest spending. I could tell you how excited I am about the chance we now have to keep our country moving forward. Or I could tell you how honored Connie and I have been to make so many new friends -- and work with so many old ones -- during this long campaign.

But when I think about all the hard work you did to make this victory possible, I’m just overcome with gratitude.

I hope you take a moment today to celebrate this victory and the President's re-election -- but I also hope you’ll be ready to get back to work soon. We have much to do, and more powerful opponents standing between us and the America we want to build. The kind of grassroots effort that won this election is exactly what we’ll need to make real change in Washington.

That’s for tomorrow, though. For today, I’ll just say those two words one more time: Thank you.

Ben: Candy and I first met at Yale.

robert, Candy and I celebrated our 40th Wedding Anniversary on Monday. It has been an amazing forty years. We celebrated it in Nashua, NH while we were on our New Hampshire campaign swing this week. A massive crowd of 650 gathered with us Monday night to hear our friend Tony Orlando sing some of his classic songs. The only thing larger than the crowd was the cake -- it was huge. Our whole event was covered by New Hampshire's  WMUR , and you can see their great story on it below. Candy and I first met at Yale. We are both from Detroit but Yale brought us together. We could never have predicted the course of our journey through life. I can tell you we never expected to be on the campaign trail in New Hampshire. I've spent my whole life tending to children. My black history was not white enough for the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith.

 It's me the President of the Black Independent Party. Robert  Gilyard.  First black man to get a law degree from the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith in 2007. The first class that graduated from the college.. I am black history in Fort Smith Arkansas. But the whites at the University of Arkansas is bringing their own form of black people to represent our city and they're supposed to be representations of black folks from our city. How can I respect my Alumni when I see the same issues that were there when I was a student. These black folks don't do nothing but go to a college. Then go home. They ignore us. But they are the white people's favorite. Now we have to listen another year and watch them applaud them people that don't give a fuk about us. Because that's how black folks are in this area. Robert,   I know it doesn't seem like much gets done in Washington these days. But when it does, you can usually thank the women of the Senate.
