Sherrod Brown: Thank You

Dear Robert L.,

After a campaign like that -- after a night like last night -- I have only two words: Thank you.

Okay, I could say a lot more. I could tell you how proud I am that we stuck together and overcame $40 million in special interest spending. I could tell you how excited I am about the chance we now have to keep our country moving forward. Or I could tell you how honored Connie and I have been to make so many new friends -- and work with so many old ones -- during this long campaign.

But when I think about all the hard work you did to make this victory possible, I’m just overcome with gratitude.

I hope you take a moment today to celebrate this victory and the President's re-election -- but I also hope you’ll be ready to get back to work soon. We have much to do, and more powerful opponents standing between us and the America we want to build. The kind of grassroots effort that won this election is exactly what we’ll need to make real change in Washington.

That’s for tomorrow, though. For today, I’ll just say those two words one more time: Thank you.

Robert, I was just in Colorado and Iowa with Mark Udall and Bruce Braley over the weekend, and let me tell you: The people there are fighting their hearts out. We all have to do absolutely the same if we want to keep the majority in the Senate. I know you're probably getting a TON of emails right now from tight campaigns all across the country (I am too.) But I wanted to recommend three of the closest tossup Senate races in the country -- three campaigns where every dollar could make a difference: Iowa Democrat Bruce Braley is down by four points in one poll and up just one in another. Alaska Democrat Mark Begich is down by 2-6 points in the four most recent polls. And Colorado Democrat Mark Udall is in a dead heat in the most recent poll. Robert - I just left the stage at the final debate before 14 caucuses and primaries take place over the  next three weeks.  And the message I sent to those who have yet to vote is that the American people cannot afford to wait for transformational change. We’ve heard a lot of folks in the political establishment, and  tonight  on the stage, say that our ideas are too bold. That the best we can do right now is incremental change. But as my dear friend Senator Nina Turner has said,  "the future of our country is too important to go from yes we can to no we can’t."
