I'm about to go speak to the crowd here in Chicago, but I wanted to thank you first.

I want you to know that this wasn't fate, and it wasn't an accident. You made this happen.

You organized yourselves block by block. You took ownership of this campaign five and ten dollars at a time. And when it wasn't easy, you pressed forward.

I will spend the rest of my presidency honoring your support, and doing what I can to finish what we started.

But I want you to take real pride, as I do, in how we got the chance in the first place.

Today is the clearest proof yet that, against the odds, ordinary Americans can overcome powerful interests.

There's a lot more work to do.

But for right now: Thank you.

 First Of, I would like to thank all the people of different races that help us celebrate our freedom because my own people will not celebrate it in fear of upsetting whites and their feelings. Juneteenth means more to me than it does most of the people of my race because I know the historical background of it. My ancestors were the first victims of police brutality. I have been harrassed by police officers who have told me "They love getting Nggers like me." I have been arrested falsely several times and police have physically attacked me. There have been time where they have attempted to beat me to the ground. I stood my ground and never resisted. I always took my beating like a strong Black man while I watch others cry about police officers that talk to them the wrong way. I am not better, I am stronger. They fear that attribute about me. Business as usual in our city changes when we take deliberate actions to change the status quo. The city’s spending panel — which hands out millions upon millions of dollars to government contractors every week — had an opportunity today to invest in the diversity, equity and inclusion that will drive better outcomes for our city. Instead, in a vote of 4-1, my vote being the only dissenting one, the Board of Estimates rejected the opportunity. For four months, I have pushed the administration to reach for equity before waiving minority- and women-owned business participation on a lucrative, longstanding contract with Motorola to ensure ongoing telecommunication between our emergency responders was not disrupted. As city leaders, we have pledged to our residents time and time again that we will improve the city’s patterns and practices related to government contracting. Millions of transgender people still face discrimination

    Friend, did you see the news? One of my first actions as a Congresswoman was to display a transgender pride flag outside my office. I did so to show the trans community -- which includes friends and family of mine -- that they are seen, heard, and not erased. Today, we must recommit our efforts toward protecting the rights of transgender Americans. Dangerous misinformation has been amplified by right-wing politicians and media figures, resulting in a disturbing series of state legislative actions across the country that target the healthcare and well-being of trans youth. Last month, I was named a co-chair of the Transgender Equality Task Force, an arm of the Congressional LGTBQ+ Equality Caucus that is advocating for legislative and administrative action to ensure that the trans community is treated with dignity and respect. Fighting a Scourge of Crime Against Seniors

In the midst of the pandemic, there has been a heartbreaking increase in fraud and scams against our nation’s seniors. Last year alone, con artists stole $1 billion from older Americans online.  Yesterday, I held a U.S. Senate Special Committee on Aging hearing—along with Chairman Casey—on how to combat these heartbreaking crimes. We heard from several witnesses including South Carolina’s own Vee Daniel, president and CEO of the Better Business Bureau (BBB) of the Upstate, who spoke on the increase in COVID-related fraud against seniors.
