This month, the Department of Defense estimated that more than 26,000 cases of sexual assault took place in the military in 2012. It gets worse. The year before, only 10 percent of reported cases - only a fraction of the total - ever resulted in a trial where the victims could find justice. A stunning 62 percent of victims felt like they were retaliated against for coming forward. The system is broken. And we need to fix it. I'm proud to support it, and I hope you are, too. Under the administration's guidance, immigration courts are going to focus on deporting people who have been convicted of crimes or who pose a security risk. This means that the courts will focus less on "low-priority" cases -- like young people who were brought here as small children and know no other home, or veterans and military spouses. So the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Justice will be reviewing the current deportation caseload, clearing out low-priority cases, and making sure they don't get into the system in the first place -- keeping the focus on cases that will make our country safer. I was around Jason’s age when I first ran for U.S. Senate. His race reminds me a lot of mine. Like Jason, I was up against a long-time incumbent. Like Jason, when I started my campaign, very few people in Washington thought we had a chance. Friends, When it comes to taking a position on any bill, Floridians know my promise: I will listen to them, I will listen to my conscience, and I will deeply study what’s on my desk before making a decision. The past few weeks, the proposal on my desk has been the nuclear deal with Iran. I have to say, this has been the toughest decision of my career in Congress. After listening to arguments on both sides, carefully reviewing all the materials, and soliciting answers from both supporters and opponents, I have reached a decision.
