Jennifer Petty: Save the Michigan Unions

They really are already at it again. Led by Republicans, on Tuesday, Michigan’s state legislature enacted far-reaching legislation that could cripple hardworking Americans who belong to labor unions. 

That’s right, in Michigan, a state that was the center of the union movement.

And Republican Governor Rick Snyder has already signed the legislation. 


This “right to work” effort is what the Republican Party is all about. And like we did in Wisconsin last year, we have to get people on the ground in Michigan, so we can fight back for working Americans.

But we need your year-end support, so please donate today. 


This effort was led by Americans for Prosperity, which is funded by the billionaire Koch brothers – who want to crush middle-class Americans everywhere they can. 

So please, please be as generous as you can today, so we can fight back. You know they won’t stop in Michigan. They will try to roll this out in every state they can. We must be ready to fight back.

Robert, This holiday season, we can’t balance the budget on the backs of hungry kids and veterans. But that’s exactly what my opponent, Congressman Tom Cotton, and his reckless colleagues are out to do. The only farm bill they’ll pass cuts $40 billion from food assistance, forcing groups like children, active-duty service members and even veterans who’ve bravely served this nation to go hungry. As one Arkansas official at a food pantry put it, this “just can’t happen.” The cuts are cruel and senseless. We’ve got to speak out now and stop Rep. Cotton from pushing through these rash, irresponsible cuts that put special interests ahead of children and veterans. A vote on the farm bill is coming, so we don’t have much time. Rob: we’re tired of waiting

Robert L., That’s how long we’ve been waiting for a real transportation bill. Congress has passed 33 short-term extensions of federal highway and transit funding over the past six years. That’s inexcusable. With federal transportation funding set to run out in a matter of days, the House and Senate are nowhere close to agreement on how to end the gridlock, putting us right back in the same position we were in barely two months ago. Tweet at Senate Majority Leader McConnell and House Speaker Boehner and tell them we’re tired of waiting. We need long-term transportation investments that will create jobs and economic growth now. As long as we’re on the brink of bankrupting the Highway Trust Fund every six months or so, we’re missing out on long-term investments that would create good, family-sustaining jobs, reduce traffic jams that worsen air pollution, and ensure a strong economy for our communities and families. Robert, Donald Trump Jr.'s emails released yesterday are explicit. The president's son was offered a meeting with a Russian lawyer for information that "would incriminate Hillary" as part of "Russia and its government's support for Mr. Trump." Trump Jr. responded:  "If it's what you say I love it" Paul Manafort, then President Trump's campaign chairman, and Jared Kushner, Trump's son-in-law and Senior White House Adviser, joined Trump Jr. for the meeting. This news is deeply disturbing, and only the latest in a series of shifting denials, changed stories, and cascading lies around members of the Trump campaign and administration's contacts with Russia. And we are working hard indeed to re-elect people like Mary Landrieu in Louisiana and Mark Pryor in Arkansas, real leaders in red states. But we're also going on offense -- in the South. Democrat Alison Lundergan Grimes is in a strong position to defeat Republican Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell in Kentucky, and Democrat Michelle Nunn will have a real chance to win an open seat in Georgia.
