Why I filibustered for gun violence prevention Friend --  I was the Congressman from Newtown, Connecticut when tragedy struck Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14th, 2012. As long as I live, I’ll never forget the scene at the firehouse when twenty-six families were told they would not be reunited with their children and loved ones.  For years, Congress has failed those families and the victims of gun violence all across the country.  That is why yesterday, starting at 11:21 a.m., I decided to stand on the Senate floor and talk for as long as I could about the need to prevent gun violence. Dear  robert , Recently I was named to the select committee to investigate the alleged sale of fetal body parts by Planned Parenthood.  I recognize this as a great responsibility, and believe this needs to be a fair, non-partisan look into possible illegal activity conducted in the organization.   The recent horrific videos that have been released must be investigated.  We as Americans deserve to know the full truth behind what has been released. We must decide if we will stand for such actions in our society, and how we value human life. This week, I've been traveling abroad, talking to people about how our countries have grown and changed over the last few years. I was so proud to be able to share with folks here that Conor Lamb won his race on Tuesday, thanks to the hard work of organizers and volunteers in the 18th district of Pennsylvania who made their voices heard.
